Max Juric

You love letters. Wait until you see what you can do with an entire wall.

There’s a particular thrill in doing something you weren’t sure you could do.

Drawing letters with real presence. Turning a rough idea into a composition that works. Picking up your tools and making that first mark at a scale you’ve never attempted before.

That’s what these workshops with Max Juric are about.

Over two days, or all four, you’ll stretch your skills, develop your eye and experience the sheer pleasure of making something big, bold and unmistakably yours.

Graffiti Lettering

Find Your Bold

You know more about letters than you think.
Now let’s see what happens when you give them a little attitude.

Join Max for two days exploring graffiti lettering and discovering how to create letters with weight, movement and personality. You’ll play with proportion, shape, spacing and dimension, learning how to push a design while keeping its structure strong.

Then you’ll take it beyond the sketchbook.

Working on your own section of a larger collaborative artwork, you’ll experience the decisions, adjustments and delicious “I did that” moments of bringing your lettering to life at scale.

You’ll explore how to:

  • Build bold letters from clear, confident structures
  • Create movement through spacing, overlap and connections
  • Add depth and character with colour, outlines and shadows
  • Develop your sketches into a composition with impact
  • Make creative decisions as you move from paper to a much larger surface

If you’ve been craving a little adventure in your lettering, here it is. Two days to experiment with Max’s guidance, try unfamiliar approaches and find out what your letters can become.

Make something you’ll be ridiculously proud to show people.

Lettering Murals

Take Up Space

You’ve admired the murals. Taken the photographs. Wondered how someone gets from a small sketch to that.

Now it’s your turn to explore the process.

Spend two days with Max learning to think, design and paint at a larger scale. You’ll develop a lettering composition for your section of the Quonset, working through the choices that help an idea hold its own across a substantial surface.

How big should the letters be? Where does the eye go first? Which details matter from across the room? And how do you actually get your design up there?

These are the questions you’ll begin answering through the work itself.

You’ll explore how to:

  • Turn a word or phrase into a strong mural concept
  • Use scale, hierarchy and space to build a composition
  • Choose colours and contrasts that carry across a room
  • Approach enlarging and transferring your design
  • Step back, assess your work and make purposeful adjustments

You’ll leave with experience to build on, ideas for future projects and a photograph that might require a rather enthusiastic explanation.

“Yes. That’s mine. I painted that.”

Give Yourself Four Days to Grow

Take one workshop to explore a new direction. Take both to spend four days developing your lettering with Max, from expressive letterforms to compositions that command a wall.

There’s time to ask questions, work through the awkward stage and keep going until something clicks.

And when you step back to see your contribution within the finished artwork, you’ll have a very visible reminder of how far you came.

Choose your workshops early. Each workshop is limited to the first 22 students. Give the artist you’re becoming something to look forward to.
