Each beginner class stands on its own, so you can try one script or work your way through the weekend. Origami is our gift to everyone with a Full Festival Pass.

Trade your pen for paper. Janet guides you fold by fold through beautiful paper pieces, and it turns out to be the calmest hour of the whole festival. It's included with every Full Festival Pass, so there's nothing extra to book.

Saturday · Oct 16 · 9–11 am
Bold, dramatic and surprisingly logical. Janet breaks Blackletter (also called Gothic) into a handful of simple strokes, so you'll be writing real words before the coffee goes cold.

Remember when handwriting was a joy? Janet brings it back with flowing, joined-up letters that are relaxing to write and lovely to look at. Thank-you notes will never be the same.

President, Winnipeg Calligraphy GuildJanet Murata is President of the Winnipeg Calligraphy Guild, where she helps a whole community of letter lovers keep learning and keep making. She works across Blackletter, Cursive and Copperplate, and she folds a mean piece of paper too.
Her specialty is beginners. Janet breaks every script into small, doable steps, so the first stroke feels easy and the last one feels like yours. You'll also find her teaching online at Calligraphy Classes.

Each beginner class is two hours, costs $75, and includes all your supplies. Just bring yourself.
No. Janet's classes are booked separately, so anyone can join. If you'd like the full experience, the Full Festival Pass includes two two-day workshops and lunch every day.
Yes. The three beginner classes are at different times, so you can book all three.
No. Origami is included with every Full Festival Pass, so pass holders can simply join Janet on Friday. It isn't sold separately.
